Actor Wanted For Play In Stonehaven - First Event is - 3rd June 2023
I'm the Communications Manager at a new offshore wind developer.
We have two ScotWind projects in development off the coasts of Orkney and Aberdeenshire. This summer, we will be taking part in community festivals and events, the Feein Market in Stonehaven, Orkney International Science Festival, etc., in order to start to publicise our projects and support STEM engagement. We sponsor a STEM programme in schools, which is managed by the University of Highlands & Islands, in order to provide offshore wind materials, teacher training and outreach so that we can support education and future careers in wind. Our wind farms will be built from 2029 onwards after a long period of site surveys and engineering design, so we are just starting our communications to communities.
As part of these events, I would like to include a short play of about 20-30 minutes where engineers from history Archimedes and James Watt meet a wind engineer of 2045 and are transported to a turbine platform where they are sceptical about this new invention and have lots of questions about how such enormous structures can float on water (one of our wind farms will be floating wind on a platform that floats on the water and is anchored to the seabed).
The main character is the Zephyra, Goddess of Wind from Greek mythology, who is bored by the engineers from history talking about the same things for centuries in the afterlife. She disguises herself as a wind engineer Zeb and transports them to a wind turbine (we'll have as stormy sea backdrop and platform rails) to prove to them the power of the wind.
It is a very unusual approach for a wind developer to do something creative like this and I am looking for actors to play these roles and then introduce our own engineers to take Q&As from the audience. We'd run this 2 to 3 times a day at these events and our venues would be one of the event spaces at the Science Festival (Kirkwall Grammar or the theatre) and Stonehaven Courthouse. The first event is 3rd June and time is quite short - I am hoping I can get together some rehearsals next month and already include this short drama in the first event then.
Please let me know if you would be interested and it would be great to have a chat.
Travel, accommodation, etc is paid on top of agreed fees.
Thanks!
